Integration Solutions for a Leading FMCG Company
Integration Solutions with S/4 HANA
Introduction
In a transformative project for a globally recognized Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company, our team successfully re-engineered their integration framework to enhance operational efficiency across the Asia-Pacific region. The project involved a critical transition from Oracle Apps ERP to SAP HANA, facilitating seamless connections with various third-party applications, including Anaplan and major banking institutions. This case study outlines the project's objectives, challenges, solutions, and outcomes.
Project Objectives
The primary objectives of the integration project were:
To establish robust connections with third-party applications, enhancing data flow and operational efficiency.
To develop a B2B architecture aligned with the client’s enterprise architecture.
To create reusable assets and components that streamline future integrations.
To implement an alert management system for monitoring integration failures.
To produce detailed run books for ongoing support and maintenance.
To integrate e-invoices with the government GST portal using the EY interface.

Challenges
The existing integration framework with Oracle Apps ERP presented several challenges, including:
Limited scalability to accommodate growing data loads and integration requirements.
Inefficient processing of SAP iDocs, leading to delays in data availability.
Lack of a cohesive architecture that could support the diverse needs of the client and its partners.
Solutions Implemented
Our team developed a comprehensive solution that included:
Architecture Design:Â We implemented a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and RESTful services to facilitate flexible and scalable integrations. Major file formats were JSON and XML.
Parallel Processing:Â The architecture was optimized for high-volume parallel processing of SAP iDocs, significantly improving data handling capabilities.
Bulk Integration:Â We established bulk integration processes with third-party APIs, enhancing data exchange efficiency. Developed very efficient Business Process and incorporated code lists, property files, XREF tables.
Managed File Transfer:Â Utilizing Cleo Harmony, we implemented a managed file transfer system to ensure secure and reliable data transfers. Developed schedules and automation for incoming file processing.
E-Invoice Integration:Â We successfully integrated e-invoices with the government GST portal using the EY interface, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and streamlining invoice processing.
Reusable Components: We developed reusable assets and components that could be leveraged for future integrations, reducing development time and costs. These include sub-BPs, Java tasks, adapter configurations, generic maps.
Alert Management System: An alerts management system was integrated to proactively monitor for failures, ensuring quick resolution of issues.
Documentation and Support:Â Detailed run books were created to guide the support and maintenance teams, ensuring smooth operations post-implementation.
Tools Used:Â IBM Sterling Business Integrator, Postman, MuleSoft, SAP HANA, Basis, Cleo Harmony, Sterling mapper, Oracle DB, Oracle Apps.
Outcomes
The successful implementation of this project yielded significant benefits for the client:
Enhanced Efficiency: The new integration framework allowed the client to manage their business operations more effectively across the Asia-Pacific region, leading to improved decision-making and responsiveness to market changes.
Increased Scalability: The B2B architecture designed for scalability enabled the client to handle larger data loads and integrate with additional third-party applications as needed.
Recognition and Appreciation: Our team received commendations from the client for our dedication and expertise in executing the project, which was deemed a major success.
Conclusion
This project exemplifies our commitment to delivering innovative integration solutions that drive operational excellence for our clients. By transitioning to a modern architecture and implementing advanced integration techniques, we empowered a leading FMCG company to enhance its business processes and maintain a competitive edge in the dynamic market of the Asia-Pacific region.
